Fort Kochi – Boating Destination in Kerala, India

Fort Kochi, also known as west Kochi is a region of the main city of Kochi. We have compiled some interesting facts about Fort Kochin which make this place a must visit for every boating enthusiast.


Chinese Fishing Nets



Chinese traders in the early 14th century introduced the Chinese fishing nets on the waterfront at Fort Kochi. Interestingly, outside china, these fishing nets are found only in Kochi.

Vasco House



It is among the oldest Portuguese houses in the country. It is believed that Vasco da Gama lived here till he died in 1524.

St. Francis Church


The St. Francis Church is one of the oldest European churches in India. Vasco da Gama was buried in this church. After 14 years, his remains were taken to Lisbon, Portugal.

Boat ride in backwaters


There are many small and mid-sized islands between Ernakulum and Fort Kochi. A perfect setting for a boat rides through the backwaters.
